Abortion by Telehealth
Abortion by telehealth, or teleabortion, is a safe and private option.
Today you will be booking into the first of 2 consultations. You can read more about teleabortion here.
Read Clinical Services: Teleabortion for detailed information about the process.
Before you book a teleabortion, you must complete the following self-assessment:
- I am able to stay in a place that is less than 2 hours’ drive of a 24-hour emergency medical service (such as a hospital), when I take the medications and for the next 3 or 4 days after.
- I do not have overseas travel plans in the next month.
- I am 16 years of age, or older.
- I can independently speak and understand English fluently.
- I have not had pain or bleeding during this pregnancy.
- I am not allergic to either of the medicines used in medical abortion, or any prostaglandin.
- I do not have chronic adrenal failure.
- I am not taking oral corticosteroid medication.
- I do not have a bleeding disorder.
- I am not taking anticoagulants (blood thinners) – aspirin is ok.
- I do not have an intrauterine device (IUD) in place now. If you have an IUD in place this will need to be removed by a health practitioner before your teleabortion appointment.
- I understand I need to take the first medication before 9 weeks 0 days (= 63 days) gestation. I will consider this when booking, as I understand I need to allow time to have an ultrasound, complete the telehealth consultations and have the medications delivered. Gestation is estimated from the first day of your last period or by ultrasound. You can work out your gestation using our pregnancy calculator. We will send you an ultrasound request form. Do not have the ultrasound done until you are 6 weeks gestation by your period. If you are less than 6 weeks, the pregnancy may not be seen on ultrasound and you may not be able to proceed with teleabortion.
If this self-assessment does describe your situation, you can make your appointment online now. (You will be required to pay a non-refundable booking fee. Refer to our booking Terms and Conditions.)
If you are an ACT resident, you can access FREE abortion care via telehealth, funded by the ACT Government until 30th June 2023. Call 1300 003 707 to make an appointment with us. Do NOT book online.
