2 Aug, 2017 | Advocacy, Equity and access, Media

Nationally accredited contraception and safe abortion provider, MSI Australia, has welcomed the implementation of the new termination of pregnancy laws in the Northern Territory that came into effect on 1 July.

MSI Australia CEO said the new laws provide women in the Northern Territory with greater choice and control over their sexual and reproductive health.

“For too long women in the Northern Territory have not had the same access to safe, quality abortion services,” says Ms Thompson.

“That has now changed and a woman can choose either a surgical or medical abortion service in the right place and at the right time.”

Ms Thompson said that on average, twelve women from the Northern Territory travel to our clinics each month.

“The new laws will remove the need for many women to travel interstate to access this important sexual and reproductive health service.”

Under the new laws women can now access abortion services in day surgeries and specialists clinics which are protected by safe access zones so the woman has privacy.

MSI Australia will initially be providing medical abortion services from 10 July, followed by surgical abortion and contraception services.

Women can call 1300 003 707 for safe, non-judgemental abortion advice.

MSI Australia is a nationally accredited not for profit contraception and safe abortion provider with a network of clinics that helping Australian women and men take control of their sexual and reproductive health.
