From our clinics across Australia, we`re dedicated to advocating for and providing essential abortion and contraception to women and people who choose it.

But our mission extends far beyond our shores. As part of an international organisation, we see firsthand the ongoing global struggle for reproductive freedom.

Around the world, millions of people still struggle to access basic contraception. Yet the US State Department is preparing to destroy $9.7 million worth of contraceptives that were meant for global distribution.

MSI and our partners offered to cover the cost of shipping and delivery to ensure these supplies reach those who need them most — but our offer was rejected.

This isn’t just wasteful. It’s dangerous. Denying people contraception puts lives at risk.

Our Senior Director for US External Affairs, Beth Schlachter rightly states: “These actions are intentional and they will cost lives.”

From Australia to the world, we stand for choice, access, and equity. Every person deserves the right to decide if or when to have children.

NSW passed historic abortion law reform today.

Our MSI Australia Medical Director Philip Goldstone, who has been providing abortion care for over twenty years, had this to say:

“This an historic moment for NSW, expanding choice and improving access.

“We support legislative change that broadens access by enabling nurses and midwives to provide medical abortion safely and that aligns with the changes made by the TGA.

“The provision of medical abortion by nurses and midwives expands choice for women, making abortion care more accessible. It is particularly important for women in rural and regional areas, where there is still stigma surrounding abortion care and a limited number of doctors that provide it.

“We continually advocate for better access to abortion care, and have agreements in the ACT, Queensland and Western Australia to work alongside government to provide abortion care. Unfortunately, no such arrangements exist in NSW where public abortion provision is poorly funded or non-existent.

“We support countless women in NSW every week to access abortion care in clinic or via telehealth, so that most women who need access to care can receive it, regardless of their postcode. We know the cost of abortion care is an issue for people and have been advocating for better funding for abortions for many years.

“We operate a philanthropic Choice Fund to help women who need support, including those who are facing financial distress, escaping violence, or who are homeless.”
